The central painting features a flowering almond tree in full blossom in the northern Galilee. The tree spreads its roots into the ketubah text below, represented in earth colors. This gentle pastoral scene is surrounded by the rugged heights of the Galilean hills. In the far distance, snow capped Mt. Hermon towers into the brilliant sky. Below the central painting is a decorative panel of the fruit and grain of Eretz Israel. The four corner motifs are based upon ancient Jewish designs of the Menorah, Psalmist’s harp, the date tree and a six-pointed star. Framing the design in gold letters a verse from the Song of Songs reflects the painting’s theme of new beginnings: “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing bird is come, and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land.”
